Story Segment Development

After changing our story to one about a horse/okapi/giraffe/zebra character. Ideally I wanted to do the third section with the trails as I felt it was the one part that offered the opportunity for more complicated/detailed animation. However, I was the last one to chose so got put with the fourth, inner most cave section. My first idea to take this part of the story was to play with abstract 2D aspects as well as 3D components which will be a challenge for me as im not as confident with drawing and illustration type things. I really wanted to push myself in this assignment and this segment i have been assigned will be good to do that.

4. They APPROACH THE IN-MOST CAVE, cross a second threshold where they endure the ORDEAL
The horse likes the horn and his ‘bad’ conscience has persuaded him to thinking it looks great. He then sees the rhino that he took the horn from. The rhino has been shunned from his crash and is left wondering alone. He looks very sad. The horse remembers exactly what that felt like and remembered how when he was down he wished someone could help him.

EMMA-
Walking in from the left side of the screen, the horse (okapi) hobbles along while trying to keep his new horn on his head without falling over. Being so focused on his horn, the okapi doesn’t see the rock right below his feet and ends up stumbling over falling on his face. His horn falls off his head and rolls away just out of his reach so the okapi has to crawl to grab it. Just as he was about to put it atop his head once again, the okapi spots the rhino that he took the horn from sitting alone in the distance. His own memories of being shunned and teased come flooding back to him in a distorted vision of dark faces laughing and pointing. They swirl around him getting closer. The okapi curls up into a ball trying to block it all out but it doesn’t work. Eventually he cant take it any longer and shouts at the top of his lungs. The images disappear just leaving the lonely rhino in the distance staring at him.

An over the shoulder shot of the okapi with the rhino in the distance to end the scene.
