Project Timeline

Week 1 -

  • Write up brief
  • Initial research into game design
  • Understand character model requirements for games

Week 2 -
  • Research character animation cycles for Unity with third person camera
    • What happens when character walk backwards
  • Find pre-modeled character
  • Create rig that I intend to use for final character
  • First and 2nd pass of animation for walk, run and jump cycles

Week 3 -
  • 3rd pass of animation for character cycles
  • Import into Unity
  • Practice basic Unity scripting
  • Create whiteblock level
  • Get character moving

Week 4 + break - 
  • Research how to model a human character
  • Browse forums to find out how best to model human characters
  • Create a character personality to help influence design with key characteristics

Week 5 -
  • Design character
  • Draw character reference for modelling
  • Begin modelling in Maya

Week 6 - 
  • Finish modelling character

Week 7 - 
  • UV map model in Headus
  • Import model into ZBrush
  • Begin to sculpt detail into model

Week 8 -
  • Complete detail sculpt
  • Research the best way to paint texture
  • Begin texture on UV map for character model

Week 9 -
  • Finish texture for character model
  • Export normal map from ZBrush
  • Bake normal map onto model in ZBrush

Week 10 -
  • Create the same rig for character used in practice
  • Weight paint the joints
  • Research how to apply same animation from practice
  • Review animation cycles and improve if necessary

Week 11 -
  • Export model as FBX
  • Bring character into Unity and get it moving
