After Effects 2D Element Play

I found this tutorial

that shows how to create flames in after effects just with the basic tools. Even though this isn't the right colour for my shadow / smoke elements I want to include in my animation, the shapes that it creates are really interesting and something I can definitely see my final outcome for my animation looking like. 

What I ended up producing-

Would need to be overlayed on top of the frames therefore has a white background

Another tutorial I found that uses obj's in conjunction with the trapcode plugin for After Effects. I want to have a play around with this feature and see if I can create any interesting texture that could be overlayed on top of something like the flame effect above or a smoke effects
