Re-looking at Animation Aesthetic

Bill Plympton

I love the use of sketchy scribbles as an overall texture as well to represent shadows and depth shaping. It is a very similar look to my initial character drawings so is a good example to how I could apply this to my animation. Although this is a 2D animation the same kind of principals are there and would be easy enough to transfer onto a 3D model.

The crosshatch shader that I have previously looked at fits in well with this style so my next step would be to test that out on my model and a small segment of animation. The only concern I have is how the shadow smoke would look. If it stays the same texture as what I used in my last animation pass it may compete with the surrounding textures. This will be something I will discover once I start playing with it, so for now Im going to put it on hold and focus more on the actual animation.
